When making wudu if you pray بِسْمِ اللهِ وَالْحَمدُ لِلهِ the guarding angels (who record your deeds) will go on writing pious deeds to your credit.
Is this true?
ANSWER
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu’anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) said:
O Abu Hurayrah! When you (intend to) make wudu, then say بِسْمِ اللهِ وَالْحَمدُ لِلهِ , for the guarding angels will continue writing rewards until you break that wudu.
(Al-Mu’jamus Saghir, vol.1 pg.73)
‘Allamah Haythami (rahimahullah) has classified the chain as sound (hasan)
(Majma’uz Zawaid, vol.1 pg.220- Chapter of saying bismillah at the time of wudu. Also see: Ihkamul Qantarah of Shaykh ‘Abdul Hayy Lakhnawi, pg.35 and Shaykh ‘Abdul Fattah Abu Ghuddah’s footnotes on al-Masnu’, pg.211.- rahimallahul jami’)
And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
