Kindly verify the following Hadiths relating to wine:
1) Wine is the gatherer of sin
2) Wine is the route to indecency and is one of the major sins
3) …And do not take to drinking, for that is the mother of all evils
Answer
1) Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) is reported to have said:
“Wine is the gatherer of all sin”
(Daylami; See Al Maqasidul Hasanah, Hadith: 445. Also see At Targhib, vol. 3 pg. 257)
2) Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) reports that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:
“Wine is the leader of all indecency and is from among the major sins…”
(Al Mu’jamul Kabir of Imam Tabarani -rahimahullah-, Hadith: 11372 with a weak chain. See Majmau’z Zawaid, vol. 5 pg. 67)
3) Sayyiduna Uthman (radiyallahu ‘anhu) is reported to have said:
“Abstain from wine, for verily it is the mother of all evils”
(Sunan Nasa’i -Al Mujtaba-, Hadith: 5666, Musannaf ‘Abdur Razzaq, Hadith: 17060, Sunan Al Kubra of Imam Bayhaqi -rahimahullah-, vol 8 pg. 287)
The above narration has been deemed authentic by Hafiz Ibn Kathir (rahimahullah).

These narrations support each other and are also supported by the following authentic narrations:
1) Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) reports that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:
“Abstain from consuming wine, for verily it is the key to all evil”
(Mustadrak Hakim, vol. 4 pg. 145. Declared authentic by Imam Hakim and Hafiz Dhahabi -rahimahumallah-)
2) Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) reports that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:
“Consuming alcohol is from among the most major of sins”
(Sunan Sa’id ibn Mansur, Hadith: 824)
